How the wheel works

How SpinTheWheelPro picks a winner, why every entry has the same chance, and what happens to the names you type.

Picking the winner

When you spin, the winner is chosen first, using crypto.getRandomValues, the cryptographically secure random number generator built into every modern browser. It draws on randomness collected by your device's operating system and is designed so that its output cannot be predicted. Each entry gets exactly the same share of the possible values, so with 10 entries each one has a 10% chance.

The wheel then animates to the chosen slice: it spins several full turns and slows down smoothly, landing at a random point inside the winning slice. Because the result is decided before the animation starts, nothing about the animation, your device speed or the moment you click can change it.

Elimination mode

With "Remove winner after each spin" switched on, the winner is taken off the wheel after the celebration. The next spin is a fair pick among the entries that are left.

Your data

The wheel runs entirely in your browser. Your entries, saved wheels, results and settings are stored in your browser's local storage on your device. They are never sent to our servers. Share links contain the wheel itself, encoded in the part of the address after the # sign, which browsers do not send to the server either.

Sounds and effects

The tick and victory sounds are generated in your browser, not downloaded. If your device is set to reduce motion, confetti and flashing effects are turned down.
